Joan Gontarek
"I am based in the serene surroundings of
Argyll, Scotland. Nature is my constant inspiration, and I immerse myself in
its beauty to create felt sculptures that capture its essence.
My artistic journey began with a deep fascination for animals, leading me to
pursue a diploma in Pet Portraiture, which I completed with distinction. This
training honed my ability to observe and portray the unique personalities of
animals, a skill I now transfer to my felt sculptures, infusing them with life
and character.
In addition to my diploma, I furthered my education in the arts, earning an HND
in Contemporary Art and a BA (Hons) degree with a major in Art & History.
These academic pursuits broadened my artistic perspective, allowing me to
explore different techniques and concepts while understanding the historical
and cultural context of art.
Through my felt sculptures, I strive to convey the beauty and wonder of the
natural world that surrounds me. Each piece is a reflection of my deep
connection to Argyll's landscapes and wildlife, expressed through the tactile
medium of felt; as well as wood, other textiles and ‘found’ objects. I hope
that my art resonates with others, inviting them to appreciate and cherish the
beauty of nature as I do.
